What is vaginal discharge?
Developing a vaginal discharge is perfectly normal part of puberty, vaginal discharge is fluid produced by the glands in the vagina, this fluid helps to keep the vagina moist and healthy protecting against damage, it is you bodies way of keeping itself clean as the discharge gets rid of any dead cells or dirt, reducing the risk of infection. You also produce a discharge when you are sexually excited as this fluid makes having sex easier.
What should it look like?
Vaginal discharge is usually clear or slightly milky fluid, when it dries you may notice a slightly yellow stain on your pants, it has a natural smell. Everyone is different in the amount of discharge their body produces. Once you start you periods you may notice that your discharge changes through the month, varying in colour, the amount and how thick or thin it appears.
I think my discharge normal isn’t normal?
If you notice that your discharge is different than normal, such as being smelly, itchy, producing a lot more, being different in colour than normal, this can be a sign of infection especially if you have sex without a condom, although some infection can occur with out any sexual contact.
