I think I may be pregnant
To find out if you are pregnant, you should get a pregnancy test as soon as possible.
This is done with a kit that can test the presence of a hormone that is found in a woman's urine when a fertilised egg implants in the womb.
An accurate result can be obtained by a urine test 14 days after unprotected sexual intercourse. This test can be carried out at any time of the day; however it is usually recommended that you test your first urine sample of the morning, as this is when the hormone is more concentrated.
Where can I get a pregnancy test?
Free pregnancy testing is provided by GP surgeries, family planning/sexual health clinics. Local young people’s clinics will also carry out free pregnancy tests. Generally the result of the test will be available to you at the time of testing.
If you prefer, you can carry out a pregnancy test in the privacy of your own home. Pregnancy tests can be purchased relatively cheaply from most chemists and supermarkets and are as reliable as those from healthcare settings.
